When I Read my Bible Through
I supposed I knew my Bible, reading piecemeal, hit or miss–
Now a bit of John or Matthew, now a snatch of Genesis;
Certain chapters of Isaiah, certain Psalms (the twenty-third);
Twelfth of Romans, First of Proverbs. Yes, I thought I knew the Word.
But I found a thorough reading was a different thing to do,
And the way was unfamiliar when I read my Bible through.
You who like to play at Bible, dib and dabble here and there
Just before you kneel aweary and yawn out a hurried prayer
You who treat the Crown of Writing as you treat no other book,
Just a paragraph disjointed, just a quick, impatient look;
Try a worthier procedure, try a broad and steady view;
You will kneel in very rapture, when you read your Bible through.
Amos R. Wells
We have greater access to the Holy Word of God than any generation before us, and yet we often neglect it’s use. As we approach the end of another year now is a great time to find a bible reading plan. I would like to encourage everyone to Read Your Bible!
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15
And thanks to the handy-dandy chart found below, you can now read all of it in any order you want. After you finish a chapter, check it off. Once you fill every box, you will have read the entire word of God!
Then you can start over, or reread the parts you struggled with so you can understand them better. May the reading of God’s word strengthen you in the coming year.
